Subject: Thank you to Luxembourg for its increased pledge and continued leadership in global health

The Developing Country NGO (DCNGO) Delegation to the Board of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria warmly welcomes Luxembourg’s recent announcement of a €13.8 million pledge to the Global Fund for its 8th Replenishment, made by Foreign and European Affairs’ Minister, H.E Xavier Bettel, in the margins of the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4) in Sevilla.

We express our deep appreciation to the Government of Luxembourg for this increased commitment, which represents an 18% rise over the baseline of its 7th Replenishment pledge. In a challenging global financial context, this pledge is both meaningful and timely—signalling Luxembourg’s sustained leadership in global health and multilateral solidarity.

Luxembourg’s commitment, alongside its longstanding contribution to official development assistance and its dedication to human rights and equity, sends a strong message to the international community. As one of the most generous OECD/DAC donors, allocating 1% of its gross national income to development cooperation, Luxembourg continues to lead by example.

This early and increased pledge will hopefully serve as an important catalyst, encouraging other European Union Member States and global partners to also step forward. Now more than ever, it is vital for countries to maintain and increase support to the Global Fund—to not only fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria, but also to invest in health systems that can withstand future shocks and adapt to the growing impact of climate change on health.

As one of the largest donors per capita to the Global Fund, Luxembourg consistently punches above its weight, and this latest announcement affirms its role as a principled and reliable partner in global health. The Developing Country NGO Delegation extends its sincere gratitude for this renewed commitment, and looks forward to continued collaboration in building a healthier, more resilient, and more just world.

With gratitude,

Cecilia Senoo                                                                            Yolanda Paul
