Our Priorities
“Amid a context of intensified global political change and polarization, destructive climatic events, security threats and wars, 2024 is a critical year for the Global Fund as it implements the new grants and gets ready for its Eighth Replenishment. With communities, implementers and donors facing so many pressing issues, fighting for what counts will be even more difficult. But amid this gloomy forecast, we must not lose motivation or take for granted our hard-fought gains in helping the most vulnerable.”
Tracy Staines Global Fund Inspector General
The changing geopolitical context, conflicts, ongoing financial crisis, the impact of climate change, shifts in the global health architecture, and the pressures facing advocates within civil society and communities creates challenges to the sustainability of the Global Fund’s gains. At the Delegations annual retreat in April 2023 and again at its most recent retreat in August 2024, the Delegation identified key policy priorities which are linked to the current context to progress through the Global Fund Board (and related committees). After significant debate, it was decided to focus on these four areas:
The overarching priority for DCNGO Delegation is to elevate civil society in the global health agenda, and to ensure that funds are invested (now and in the long term) in the areas and communities most affected by the three diseases, and especially those that governments do not fund. DCNGO Policy Priorities for 2024-25 cluster around four areas including:
- Funding for civil society
- Legal and human rights
- Building sustainability
- Advocating for a successful 8th replenishment
