Dear Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF)

Re: Historic Commitment Pledge to the Global Fund’s Eighth Replenishment

Dear Sir Chris Hohn and Ms Kate Hampton,

The Developing Country NGO (DCNGO) Delegation to the Global Fund Board expresses deep gratitude for The Children’s Investment Fund Foundation’s (CIFF’s) landmark commitment of US$150 million to the Global Fund’s Eighth Replenishment. This extraordinary pledge, a five-fold increase from previous contributions, sets a powerful example of private sector leadership in global health and underscores CIFF’s unwavering dedication to advancing equity and innovation in the response to HIV, Tuberculosis, and malaria.

At a time when global health challenges are intensifying, CIFF’s enhanced investment demonstrates the critical role of private sector partners in sustaining progress and accelerating the adoption of transformative solutions. The commitment to expanding access to cutting-edge HIV prevention tools, including long-acting injectables, will significantly enhance efforts to reach underserved populations and communities most affected by these diseases. Such investments are not just financial—they are lifelines that strengthen health systems and ensure that scientific breakthroughs translate into real-world impact.

A devastating new report from The Lancet warns that cuts to HIV funding could lead to over 10 million new HIV infections by 2030, reversing decades of hard-won progress. This devastating outcome will bring us back to when and why the Global Fund was created more than 20 years ago, risking the loss of all hard-won impact and billions of dollars invested in the fight against HIV.

In this critical moment, the $150 million pledge from CIFF stands as a powerful and unwavering commitment to global health. It is not just a financial contribution—it is a clear and urgent call to action to prevent this projected crisis and ensure that the world stays on course to end AIDS as a public health threat.

Addressing the three diseases requires sustained and ambitious investment from all sectors. CIFF’s leadership is a powerful example and an inspiration for other private sector and philanthropic partners to step forward. It sets a strong tone for what’s possible when bold commitments meet urgent needs. The DCNGO Delegation urges other donors to follow CIFF’s example by prioritizing funding for life-saving interventions that uphold the rights, equality, dignity, and health of the most vulnerable.

Once again, we extend our deepest appreciation to CIFF for its visionary commitment. Your leadership not only strengthens the Global Fund partnership but also reinforces the shared responsibility of all stakeholders in ensuring a healthier, more just world, for future generations.

With gratitude,

Cecilia Senoo and Yolanda Paul
