Anushiya Karunanithy is the Head of International Relation and Special Initiative Department at the Malaysian AIDS Council where she works to address the national HIV and Hepatitis responses involving key populations such as persons who inject drugs, female sex workers, transgender people and men who have sex with men. Anushiya has been a member for Developing Country NGO to the Global Fund Board since 2021. Anushiya has worked at the Malaysian AIDS Council dor more than 12 years working with different international donors such as Global Fund, International HIV/AIDS Alliance and Coalition PLUS. Some of Anushiya’s involvement includes being part of key national groups including: the HIV technical group; the The hepatitis C virus (HCV) technical group; the strategic plan for HIV and HCV; and a member of WHO HCV self-testing guidelines development group. Anushiya is also a member of Malaysian health research ethics framework development group, a member of Malaysian transwomen network, the regional coordinator for South Asia and Southeast Asia Platform and has advocated and successfully integrated LDS syringe into the national harm reduction programme and have engaged in other pilot research for HIV, HCV and national projects. Besides the NGO and community groups, Anushiya has a very good working relationship with government stakeholders, international and regional networks.
