The Developing Country NGO Delegation Announces the Appointment of its Incoming Board Member and Alternate Board Member to the Global Fund Board

At its annual retreat 3-5 July 2026, ahead of the Global Fund’s 55 Board Meeting, the Developing Country NGO (DCNGO) Delegation elected its incoming Board Member (BM) and Alternate Board Member (ABM) who will serve in these roles for the next two years.

The DCNGO are delighted to announce Ms. Anushiya Karunanithy (Malaysia) elected as the incoming BM and Mr. Aaron Sunday (Nigeria) elected as the incoming ABM.

  • Anushiya Karunanithy is Head of International Relations & Special Initiatives at the Malaysian AIDS Council, where she has worked for more than 14 years across resource mobilisation, programme management, advocacy, and international relations. Anushiya has built strategic partnerships and contributed to national, regional, and global initiatives supported by the Global Fund and other international partners. She serves as the Coordinator of the South Asia and Southeast Asia (SASEA) Platform under the Coalition PLUS network, leading regional collaboration, partnership development, and strategic initiatives among civil society organizations across the region. Anushiya has extensive technical expertise in HIV, hepatitis C, harm reduction, health policy, strategic planning, and global health governance. She serves on Malaysia’s HIV and hepatitis C technical working groups, has contributed to the development of the national HIV and hepatitis C strategic plans, and was a member of the World Health Organization’s hepatitis C self-testing guidelines development group. Anushiya has been a member of the DCNGO Delegation since 2021.
  • Haruna Aaron Sunday is Executive Director of the African Network of Adolescents and Young Persons Development (ANAYD), Nigeria and actively engaged in the County Coordinating Mechanism (CCM) in Nigeria. Aaron has led the reformation of youth constituency engagement on CCM by ensuring a transparent leadership change and guidelines for effective feedback and accountability. A public health specialist, Aaron brings expertise in HIV, TB, sexual and reproductive health and rights, governance, strategic planning, research, health policy, and institutional strengthening. For almost a decade, he has influenced policy, strengthened partnerships, and led programmes to improve health outcomes and expand opportunities for adolescents and young people across national, regional, and global platforms. Aaron received the 2021 AVAC Advocacy Award and has been a member of the Developing Country NGO Delegation since 2019.

The DCNGO Delegation extends its heartfelt appreciation to the current leadership Cecilia Senoo (BM) and Yolanda Paul (ABM) who have served in leadership roles since 1 July 2023. The current Board representatives will continue to serve in their roles until the end of August 2026 when the incoming leadership will officially assume their roles as BM and ABM on 1 September 2026 to enable a smooth transition.
