Subject: Appreciation for Takeda’s Commitment to the Global Fund’s Eighth Replenishment

Dear Takeda,

On behalf of the Developing Country NGO (DCNGO) Delegation to the Global Fund Board, we extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to Takeda Pharmaceutical Company for its generous commitment of JPY 350 million to the Global Fund’s Eighth Replenishment.

Takeda’s continued support — particularly through the renewal and scaling of the Takeda Initiative — serves as a powerful demonstration of long-term private sector leadership in global health. We commend your focus on integrated service delivery, particularly in antenatal and postnatal care across Kenya, Nigeria, and Tanzania. Your partnership has already improved care for 1.5 million mothers over the past five years. This renewed investment will deepen its impact by strengthening sustainable, locally led health systems.

The DCNGO Delegation represents local civil society voices from low income countries across the regions most affected by HIV, TB, and malaria. We witness firsthand how transformative investments like yours empower frontline health workers and strengthen health systems — particularly when maternal and child health is integrated with responses to the three diseases.

At the most recent Global Fund Board Meeting, technical partners presented projections outlining the consequences of insufficient and un sustained investment — all of which painted a grim picture. These scenarios echoed findings published in The Lancet, which warned that cuts to HIV funding could result in over 10 million new HIV infections by 2030, reversing decades of hard-won progress. Such a devastating outcome would take us back to the very conditions that led to the creation of the Global Fund more than 20 years ago, jeopardizing both the gains achieved and the billions of dollars already invested in the fight against HIV.

The success of the Global Fund 8th Replenishment will determine the Global Fund’s ability to meet its targets and test the global community’s commitment to equity, impact, and the right to health for all. We thank you for choosing to invest at this critical moment. Your commitment underscores the essential role of the private sector in advancing equity, resilience, and access to health.

Your leadership not only strengthens the Global Fund partnership but also reinforces the shared responsibility of all stakeholders in ensuring a healthier, more just world, for future generations.

With gratitude and respect,

Cecilia Senoo,                                              Yolanda Paul
